Apple standard procedures won't work with security
On May 24, Apple posted a support forum entry on how to avoid or remove the MacDefender malware that's been plaguing an unknown number of users since early May. And I'm glad they did. But the support forum is way overdue, and Apple's standard method of responding to user issues--ignore them until they won't go away and then issue a response when the outcry gets too loud--simply won't fly where user security is at stake.
Mac users are a juicy, unprotected target for hackers, phishers, and scammers, and Apple needs to drop the impenetrable fortress act and help them raise the drawbridge.

Ordine interno Apple: "non date supporto anti-malware!"
According to multiple tech support insiders, the company has doubled down on its policy of denying any help to affected customers. Meanwhile, despite evidence that a large number of customers have been affected by this issue, Apple has made no public statement and did not respond to two requests for comment.

Apple triggers 'religious' reaction in fans' brains, report says
At product launches, Apple store employees cheer for the first customers to buy the company's latest gadgets.
CNN) -- Next time Grandma asks why you're going to the mall on Sunday morning instead of church, tell her you're going to Apple Chapel.
For Apple fans, the brand triggers a reaction in the brain that's not unlike that of religious devotees, according to a BBC documentary series that cites neurological research.

An AppleCare support rep talks: Mac malware is "getting worse"
Over the weekend, I got an e-mail from an AppleCare support rep, who was responding to my recent reports of Mac malware being found in the wild. At least one prominent voice in the Mac community dismisses these reports as “crying wolf.” The view from inside an Apple call center says it’s for real:
I can tell you for a fact, many, many people are falling for this attack. Our call volume here at AppleCare is 4-5x higher than normal and [the overwhelming majority] of our calls are about this Mac Defender and its aliases. Many frustrated Mac users think their Mac is impervious to viruses and think this is a real warning from Apple. I really wish I could say not many people will fall for this, but in this last week, we have had nothing but Mac Defender and similar calls.

Apple Low-Balls 2011 Q2 iPhone 4 Shipment Volume
Last quarter, we collectively purchased 18.6 million iPhone 4s. As of right now, there are an estimated 1.5 million to 2 million iPhone 4s left out there, sitting on retailer and carrier shelves, waiting for a new owner like a puppy in a window. Maybe the rather hefty chunk of iPhone 4inventory pushed Apple to lower its Q2 shipment volume from 20 million units to 17.5 to 18 million units, but I’m secretly hoping this figure has something to do with the launch of the next-gen iPhone, maybe as soon as September of this year if rumors prove true.
